  1. While we tend to view the early women’s rights movement as being chiefly concerned with getting the vote, there were divergent streams. Mary Walker, a doctor during  the Civil War is  the only woman to ever receive the Congressional Medical of Honor. Her focus: 
    “The greatest sorrows from which women suffer today are … caused by their unhygienic manner of dressing. The want of the ballot is but a toy in comparison!”
